Description:
The mosque is purportedly built on the home to the remains of Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist. It was built in the beginning of the 8th century. However, the current building dates back only to the 12 century, so we cannot determine its original qibla direction. However, the closest Qibla direction is 5 degrees to the Between Qibla. The minaret was built in 1090 and was destroyed during fighting in the Syrian civil war in April 2013. Dan Gibson classified it as a Between Qibla because it was closer to Between than Mecca.
