In Assyrian records dating from 845 BC, Adumatu (modern Dumat Al-Jandal) is mentioned as the capital of the Arab kingdoms. According to the text, Sennacherib captured Adumatu in 688 BC, and arrested the queen. Read more in A Short History of the Tribes of Ancient North Arabia. Khalid Bin Al-Waleed captured Dumat Al-Jandal in 12 Hijri before leading the Muslim armies to conquer Iraq and Syria. The original walls of the ancient town of Adumatu demonstrate that it was larger than the modern town of Dumat Al-Jandal.
