Description:
The mosque is built on a hillside, 50 m south of the summit, which is visible from afar (Avni 1985: 86). It consists of a rectangular enclosure measuring 2.8 x 5.2 m (figure 2), with a mihrab niche (0.9 m width, 1.3 m depth) in the center of the southern wall and a large stone standing on its narrow side in the niche wall. The structure is constructed of two rows of medium-sized and large stones (width 0.6 m) preserved to a height of one course. To the northeast of the mosque is a large chalk-cut reservoir, but no remains of a settlement were found in the vicinity. Its proximity to a large cistern and along a main route from Sinai to the Central Negev and the Arava Valley suggest that it was built to serve travelers
