Hard Questions

  1. (1 John 2:18) The last hour? History has entered its climax; the only thing left is for Christ to come back. John expected it in his day, we still expect it in ours.
  2. (Jude 9, 14)? 9 comes from The Assumption of Moses, 14 potentially from the Book of Enoch, potentially from some kind of tradition not recorded in any manuscript we’ve found, potentially direct divine inspiration. Just because something gets quoted doesn’t make it Scripture; Paul quotes poetry a couple of times in his sermons and letters, and those poems aren’t Scripture. They’re just using the quote. The rest of the poem about Cretans’ being lazy gluttons doesn’t make it into Scripture, and neither does the rest of these pseudepigraphal books.
  3. Posture toward Revelation: if no one else has figured it out, I’m probably not the first. Avoiding allegory as much as possible, being mindful of other prophecy in Scripture and how little it was understood until Christ explained it directly to His disciples.
