Chapter 19 The Roman Army

Doell September 2022

Abstract

Many Muslims have asked where the Byzantine army was during the early years of Islam, especially if Petra was the Holy City of Islam. This chapter answers this question, demonstrating how the Roman army was far away. Jordan and northern Saudi Arabia were policed by Christian client tribes during the time of Muhammad. This chapter also explores manuscript evidence of Muhammad’s attitude to the Romans.
