- I finally got a hold of the book that was of was of interest
during the summer of 1969 I was with a Youth Group in Israel
, I had seen the rails outside of Haifa, Israel and had heard
that this was the Hedaz Railway Line Haifa, [Palestine Later
on Israel] -Deraa [Jordan] Branch Line to Haifa Port going to
Jordan Valley Via Shemmamia, Tel Shemmam, Afule, Shatta then
to Beisan, Jisr Al Mejami to Samakh and across the Jordan, and
saw part of the line between Afule and Jenin the going towards
Nablus I recall seeing a narrow gauge can sitting near Nablus,
saw the railway bridges across the Jordan River.
-
- Before May 1906 before linking to the Hejaz Railway Main
Line The Haifa-Deraa Branch Line on Page 54 of Nicholson Book
on the Hejaz Railway.
- 1902 Rolling Stock 6 Krass Tank Engines, 8 Passenger Coaches
and 62 Wagons.
- 1905 4 Hohenzollern [Dusseldorf] 0-6-0T's were built for the
Haifa Branch
- 1907 4 Henschel & Sons of Cassell Provide 2-4-6-0 Compound
Mallets
-
- With the purchase of this book several questions were answered,
I did not know that Akko [Acre] was connected to this line in
1911-1913 only 18 kilometers it was rejected as a port because
of an inferior harbour However in 1911 it was the capital of
the Province and should be included in the system.
-
- Then came to my surprise a 250 Meter Long RAMIN Tunnel which
was located 9 kilometers south of Sileh on the Afule to Nablus
Branch Line, Just south of Sileh Station by 1915 the track reached
Nablus and was planned to continue to Jerusalem but it never
did get built. This section was never considered part of the
Hejaz railway.
-
- In a Campaign Series Book titled Megiddo 1918 starting with
a map showing the Railway at Be'er Sheba going north towards
Ramle & Lydda Where this line connected in to the Jaffa and
Jerusalem branch line and outside of Jerusalem was a spur towards
Ramallah which could have been connected to Nablus line. Of interest,
later on in the book it is gone from the balance of maps while
in this book they state that 10 engines were captured at Afule
Station on page 50, in the end of the book by the time they reach
Aleppo they have captured 89 Engines. Question is: From which
Railway: Syrian DHP or The Hejaz?
-
- Then while looking at the rolling stock was I surprised a
Mosque Car Built at the Naval Arsenal in Constantinople in Turkey
What is missing is of interest the Palestine Line Lydda to Qualquilye,
Tul Karm to Sebustiye on the Nablus Branch Line. "the Palestine
Railway" built by the same people but not apart of the Hejaz
Railway
-
- Yet it is said that T.E. Lawrence Forces did attack a train
outside of Be'er Sheba. This line continued on into the Egyptian
Frontier at El Auju then to El Kossaima Include in this is the
1918 list of engines for the Hejaz Railway as follows for 1918
are a total Engines 129 for use on the Hejaz Railway as follows"
