| The castle now existing in Azrak was buld around
300 A.D. and an inscription tells us it was dedited to Emperors Diocleation and Maximan. Emperor Jovian later enlarged it in 363 A.D. The Arabs rebuilt it between 1213 and 1238 A.D.during the time of the crusades. It is known as Qalat al Rabadh. |

| It is said that an ancient monastery once stood on the site, inhabited by a Christian named Ajlun. When the monestary fell into ruin, the castle took its place and the name of the monk continued. | |
