For the first time entries 1 through 156 of Akhbar Mecca have been translated into English, making this important history of Islam available for study to the English speaking world. Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Azraqi was an Islamic historian born in the second century of Islam, making this text an early history of Islam seen through the eyes of the city of Mecca and the Ka’ba. Dan Gibson is a Canadian historian and a researcher of early Islamic archaeology. He has published several books of original research including Early Islamic Qiblas, and Let the Stones Speak. He is the focus of two documentary films: The Sacred City, and The Sacred City II.
