First Photos of the Holy Land http://www.eretzyisroel.org/~dhershkowitz/
I THOUGHT THAT THE VISITORS TO THE HEDJAZ RAILWAY SITE MIGHT APPRECIATE THIS PHOTO. (below) IT SHOWS THE MONUMENT ON INAUGURATION DAY OF THE HAIFA STATION. THE MONUMENT WAS DESIGNED BY THE SULTANS ITALIAN ARCHITECT RAIMONDO D’ARONCO (1857 - 1932). D’ARONCO ALSO DESIGNED THE HIDJAZ TELEGRAPH MONUMENT IN DAMASCUS. THE HIDJAZ/HEDJAZ TELEGRAPH LINKED THE STATIONS ON THE DAMASCUS - HEDJAZ RAILWAY LINE AND WAS ALSO USED BY PILGRIMS ON THE WAY TO MECCA. IF YOU WANT CAN SEND PHOTOGRAPH OF THE TELEGRAPH MONUMENT IN DAMASCUS AND ALSO HAVE LIST OF TELEGRAPH STATIONS. I’M INTERESTED IN THE HISTORY OF THE OTTOMAN TELEGRAPH IN THE HOLY LAND AND AM CONSTANTLY SEARCHING FOR MATERIAL.
